Composition and care
Merino wool is a type of fine wool. Currently, the largest population of this fine-wooled breed is found in Australia. These sheep have adapted to the continent's harsh climate, making their wool truly unique; it is incredibly fine yet strong, warm, and soft.
Acrylic is a soft, lightweight material that looks and feels like wool, earning it the well-deserved nickname "artificial wool." This resemblance goes beyond mere appearance: the fiber is voluminous and fluffy, capable of trapping a significant amount of air, which allows garments to retain heat exceptionally well. Acrylic items are easy to use and do not require special care.
Characteristics
- Hygroscopicity. Merino wool absorbs moisture effectively, taking in up to 30% of its own weight in water. A pleasant bonus: the wool remains dry to the touch and continues to retain heat. This characteristic is particularly valuable for outerwear, keeping the wearer warm in even the coldest and rainiest autumn or winter weather.
- Hypoallergenic properties. Fine wool does not trigger allergies, making it suitable for children's clothing and products for people with sensitive or easily irritated skin.
- Dirt resistance. The fiber structure is naturally springy, allowing the fibers to repel dirt and other foreign particles. Garments can be easily cleaned with a simple shake.
- Heat retention. Merino fibers have a natural crimp, creating numerous air-filled pockets between them.
- Odor resistance. The fabric resists unpleasant odors thanks to the keratin in its composition. This natural substance effectively repels bacteria, creating an environment hostile to their survival.
- Merino wool cannot be replicated by synthetic or artificial materials; the unique properties of this natural fiber make it impossible to create an exact copy.
- Softness and elasticity. For comparison: Merino wool is three times softer than silk and five times more elastic than cotton.
- Fine Merino fibers blend beautifully with cashmere, alpaca, or silk, serving as a high-quality base for premium blended fabrics.
Care
1. Natural wool, like similar fabrics, requires careful handling and maintenance.
2. Hand washing with a wool-specific detergent is recommended. The water temperature should not exceed 30°C. Washing wool in water that is too hot can cause it to shrink by several sizes; furthermore, the fabric may lose its strength and become coarse and unpleasant to the touch.
3. Do not tumble dry the item at high temperatures, and avoid drying it near radiators or in direct sunlight. We recommend drying it laid flat on a towel.
4. Wool garments can be ironed, but care must be taken to use the appropriate setting—the "wool" mode with steam.
